Monster’s Dinner

February 18, 2013

Monster’s Dinner (Canavarlar Sofrası) 2011 – monstrous indeed in terms of topics – indifference, lack of true values, friendship and love – to name a few. Arrogance and hatred were the only norms to which the actors adhered. The whole movie was filmed in one apartment which could be anywhere in the world, so it was hard to tell exactly where the action was taking place and the backgrounds of the two couples involved. Excellent acting. Soundtrack coherent with the main topics.

To Rome with Love

January 5, 2013

If you are a fan of Rome and Woody Allen, you can’t help liking ‘To Rome with Love‘ (2012). Fascinating scenes, music, somehow familiar stories with a bit of a twist – all garnished with a very Woody Allenish humour. ‘If something is too good to be true, you can bet it’s not.’

Under the Tuscan Sun

October 3, 2012

Under the Tuscan Sun – a movie good seeing after a trip out there. Fascinating views and sights where coincidences do happen when one (in a movie or not) least expects them to.

The Dictator

May 26, 2012

The Dictator (2012) – a comedy that makes a parody of pretty much everything around – Western leaders, Arab leaders, everyday prejudices. Aladeen rewriting even the language so his name means both “positive” and “negative. The Aladeen news or the Aladeen news do not making much of a difference, especially when one is HIV-Aladeen and not only.

Le grand bleu

May 7, 2012

Le grand bleu (1988) – if it were not for the fabulous sea world scenes and Jean Reno in the main role, I would have hardly survived it through the end.  Recurring all throughout: wanting to know everything about everything. A movie about friendship, competitiveness, bravery, recklessness and the Grand Big Blue.

Bel Ami

April 29, 2012

Bel Ami (2012) – 19th century French costumes and manners, adapting to wealth, despising poverty, rising to the top – a movie about flattery, sex, power, politics and ruthlessness. Can’t remember having read Guy de Maupassant’ novel and unlikely to do so. Good and credible acting.
