“Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.” -René Magritte

René Magritte, the Belgian surrealist artist, became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality.

Artsy has embarked on a mission to make all the world’s art accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. Their growing database of 800,000 images of art, architecture, and design by 70,000 artists spans historical, modern, and contemporary works, and includes the largest online database of contemporary art.
