Patrick Süskind’s Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is an intriguing over-the-top grotesque novel about identity and the morality of the human spirit. Grenouille (French for “frog”) was born in Paris who lived life in solitude, and found it unbearable. But neither could he live among people. The murders are not the story, the character, his skill, and the progression of his life is the story. Some aspects of human nature haunt you days after reading the final page of the book.
