The French Lieutenant’s Woman

January 25, 2015

I have read the book years ago and what I vividly remember from it were Sarah’s melancholy and Charles’ enchantment with her. The movie “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (1981) based on John Fowles’ novel, which I only saw these days, was an amazing combination of the basic plot within a “modern” context of the directors’ making.

And Meryl Streep as Sarah / Anna and Jeremy Irons as Charles Henry Smithson / Mike were simply superb.
