My first home-made künefe

My home-made künefe

  • 1  cup water + 1 cup sugar + 1/2 lemon juice = boil for the syrop
  • 80 gr pistachionuts (chopped)
  • Butter – 1 Spoon
  • 80 grams unsalted cheese (e.g. Mozarella)
  • Kadayif (Shredded pastry) – 200 gr

Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Add lemon juice; stir. Boil for 1 minute. Combine kadayif shreds and melted butter in a pan. Divide into half. Spread one half in a slightly greased baking pan. Press with finger slightly. Sprinkle with crushed nuts and sliced cheese. Press again. Put the remaining half of kadaiyf on top, pressing firmly this time. Bake in a moderate oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Pour the syrup over. Serve cold or hot.
