La strada

December 3, 2013

Federico Fellini’s ‘La strada‘ (1954) – a black-and-white with no special effects movie, but focussing solely on the intimate nature of the characters.

Anthony Quinn and Giulietta Masina in a dramatic story with lots of physical and emotional pain along the way. ‘Who knows? I don’t know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. For if its useless, everything is useless. So are the stars!’ A movie about love, but it isn’t until the very end of the film that we realize it and its transforming power.

An innocent face, a child-like sincerity and a trumpet melody haunting you long after the end of the movie.
