Saint Nicholas

December 6, 2011

The true story of Santa Claus begins with St. Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara (now on the southern coast of Turkey).

“There was a man who deeply desired a son. He prayed to St. Nicholas, asking his help and promised to bring the son to church and together they would leave a fine gold cup. A son was born and when he was old enough, the man commissioned a very fine gold cup. The finished cup was so exceptional that the man could not bear to give it up. So he commissioned a second cup… More on this miracle and others here. Happy holiday to all celebrating!
