Foreign countries, foreign thoughts

November 9, 2011

This was probably the first short story by a Chinese author I ever read. Yiyun Li: “Foreign countries make you think foreign thoughts… If you have grown up with a language which you have never used for expressing your feelings, it is easier to learn a new language and start expressing yourself.” A Thousand Years of Good Prayers – mythology, politics, history, and culture intersecting with personality to create fate. Translation of the short story in Bulgarian here.
