The Petrified Forest

October 27, 2010

Duke Mantee (Humphrey Bogart in his young years) – a killer and a gangster, and Alan Squier (Leslie Howard) – an intellectual and a failed writer – diverse personalities both belonging to different vanishing races in the The Petrified Forest (1936). Just like in a petrified forest – dead trees in the desert that have turned to stone – in the movie each character has been petrified in his/her own way. No special effects but brilliant play instead all throughout.
